Naramata is live (Wine tourism in Canada)

Update: Naramata is live on Kickstarter and the campaign will run for 29 days. You may pledge for a copy of the game, or also commission a tourist card in your likeness.

Our preview post below was published on November 23.

Naramata is a 1-4 player card drafting and set collection game in which you are a tour operator, guiding tourists in the wine-producing region of Naramata in British Columbia. It will launch on Kickstarter on November 24.

In Naramata, you will be moving your vehicle along the map, stopping at various wineries to let the tourists enjoy the wines and the view. Other players will be blocking the wineries they stop at, so you can only move to open ones. When you stop at an open winery spot, you can take the actions available there. These may be cheese tasting, wine tasting, wine purchasing, wine pairing, or picture taking. All these actions cost time, which you will be recording on the time track.

When you take the cheese tasting action, you will draw 2 cards from the cheese deck and then keep the one that satisfies your tourist card, and receive any prestige points given by the other. To purchase wine, you draw 2 wine bottle cards and spend prestige points to acquire the one your tourist wants. To take pictures, you roll the view die, gain an amount of view tokens and give them to the tourist card. To do wine tasting, you draw two wine cards, give one to the tourists, and keep the prestige points of the other. To do a wine pairing, you take the pairing token and gain prestige according to the time when the pairing takes place (it has to be done at around 13:00).

In the solo mode, you start the game with 6 prestige points and 2 tourist cards. The maximum requirements of the tourist cards have to be fulfilled by the end of the day, otherwise you lose your prestige. Two rival AIs will be blocking spots on the map according to the result of a die roll each turn.
