Watch your Back: Week September 11 to 17
Projects keep coming down on us like autumnal rain, and this week has no less than 7 in store. Let's check them out.
***
Kingdom Come: Deliverance - The Board Game is a 1-4 player cooperative adventure app-driven game in which you play as common folk caught in the midst of the Hussite wars in Medieval Europe.
The story is presented through the app which also gives you choices to make, and keeps track of your progress. It is launching on Gamefound on September 12.
Personal opinion: Apps are a definite no-go for me.

Lunar Rush is a 1-4 player auction and pick-up-and-deliver game in which you are competing with other companies for the extraction of lunar resources. You will have to build bases, transport the mined crystals, and sell them to Earth.
In the solo mode, you play against one or more AIs with their own decks of cards. It is launching on Kickstarter on September 12.
Personal opinion: AIs, auctions, mining: I wouldn't rush to get this one.
***
SPARTA!: Struggle for Greece is a 1-2 player card-driven wargame in which you play as either the Athenians or the Spartans and command your forces against the rival city-state.
Over the course of the game, you will try to spread your influence over various regions, and possibly take control of them. You can also move your armies and forge alliances with other powers. In the solo mode, you play against a bot. It is launching on Kickstarter on September 12.
Personal opinion: The gameplay is somewhat reminiscent of Twilight Struggle which I consider to be excellent. I don't like to play against bots, however, and find the artwork a bit uninspired.

Age of Inventors is a 1-4 player worker placement and action selection game in which you are in charge of a 19th century lab, competing with other innovators for the most progressive inventions.
You can hire famous people like Tesla, Marie Curie and Einstein, purchase equipment for your lab, and complete inventions by spending the required resources. The game can be played solo against an AI opponent. It is launching on Kickstarter on September 13.
Personal opinion: You know me and AIs...

Speaking of labs, Explosion in the Laboratory is a 1-4 player push-your-luck card game in which you are making experiments while trying to avoid explosions.
The game is a spin-off from Fire in the Library. You will be mixing ingredients until you decide to stop and score, or go for more points and risk an explosion. Solo rules haven't been revealed yet. It is launching on Backerkit on September 13.
Personal opinion: It's becoming embarrassing for me to say no all the time, but no.

Valroc is a 1-4 player drafting and hand management game in which you are a wizard taking part in a tournament for the title of the archmage.
You have to tame dangerous creatures, earn skill points, and use your abilities in order to beat your opponents. The game also comes with a cooperative campaign mode in which you go against the Dark Wizard. It is launching on Kickstarter on September 13.
Personal opinion: It sounds okay, but perhaps oriented more towards the competitive mode.

Project EOS Rise is a 1-4 player cooperative sci-fi worker and dice placement game in which you are searching for the Paradise Planet, fighting aliens and smuggling cargo along the way. To play solo, you will need to command all four characters.
You will be placing meeples on various action spaces to take the corresponding actions, and attacking ships by rolling dice and combining their symbols. It is launching on Kickstarter on September 13.
Personal opinion: I took a look at an instructional video and must admit I was bored.
Project EOS Rise is launching today!
Combi-nations, the latest tile-laying game from Corné van Moorsel (Habitats), is live on KS! The goal is to place colored polyominoes to have the biggest domains of each "biome".
EDIT: I was mistaken, it's not a SPIEL-exclusive.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance just got postponed by a week!
I see a lot of history, competition, dice... I see a big pass across the board.
There is one more game launching: Spark Riders 3000. It's a dice-driven tower defense game set in a spaceship: move your crew members around, repair, attack the incoming enemy vessels, lose some parts under fire, etc. I recommend watching the trailer which I think is very well done.
I'm really not a fan of the aesthetics, but the gameplay looks like something I may have fun with. Oh but, wait, it's app-driven...
