Our preview post below was published on September 27.
Warfighter: The Fantasy Card Game is a 1-6 player hand management and dice rolling game that follows the same system as the Warfighter series of games by DVG. It will launch on Kickstarter on September 29.
In Warfighter Fantasy, you will first select a team of adventurers and equip them with weapons. They will travel across the land of Plumeria, and descend into dungeons to fight monsters and gain experience and loot. The enemy difficulty scales from mere Nuisance creatures to Common, Renowned, Legendary and Mythical level ones. Hero classes are typical high fantasy types: Fighters, Thieves, Clerics and Wizards. The abilities of Clerics are powered through their Divinity, and Wizards' spells are powered through Mana. To regain Divinity, Clerics have to kill Undead monsters.
Like in standard Warfighter, over the course of the game, heroes gain stress. In the case of Wizards, stress builds up the more spells they cast. Town visits will give characters a chance to rest and rejuvenate.
The game is compatible with every other Warfighter game, which means that you can take your Wizard in the jungles of Vietnam or bring your modern-day soldiers in, to fight against dragons.

Let me start out I really like the (modern) warfighter system. It's a good system and you can have a lot of fun with it.
However the KS campaign raised several red flags for me. Let's analyse what we get here for our money. I'm looking at MSRP prices to start. You pay $60 for the base game which includes 4 human only heroes. Adding your basic fantasy races (Elf, Dwarf and Halfling) it's another $60. I would expect these races to be in the base game as a bare minimum for a fantasy based game but that's probably me.
In total, there are 12 expansions packs costing $240 for a $60 base game. But of course you don't want…
Oh my. This evening I've sort of talked my way out of this game and cancelled my pledge. 😳 I'm shocked. I don't know what happened.
On the other hand: I am suddenly very rich.
Thanks a lot for your answer. I actually computed the price per expansion for each pledge... It's 16,25$, 15$ and 13,75$ respectively (note that they are even spaced). So the biggest reduction is to go with four expansions ($20 -> $16,25), even though it's not the best deal if you consider the price per package.
But to me, it would be fundamentally impossible to not go with expansions #1-4. Otherwise the gap in the numbers will drive me crazy. I can endure not having the whole series, but gaps are just a horror. I wish they hadn't numbered them, I would have been able to freely pick the ones I want most.
By the way, I am also interested in this one because of the classical theme. But like any Warfighter game, all-in is so expensive...
The higher pledge levels add 4, 8 or all 12 expansion packs. I think my choice for 4 would be the Temple/Armory/Tower/Guild expansions. I like the part of Warfighter where you prepare your team. For 8, I would add the Adventure cards and the Dungeons.
But I also want the Paladin 😭
Anyway, I hope to restrain myself. Like I told you, there will probably be more campaigns later.
I've got Warfighter Shadow War, and I've been able to buy expansions in later campaigns as add-ons. They also appear in shops sometimes, but the availability is limited then. I have no doubt there will be more campaigns for Warfighter Fantasy packs in the future. The only reason to take a more expensive pledge now would be to have a discount per pack. Also, take note that the big box with dividers and playmat is not included in any pledge. I must say I prefer a playmat with this game.
