Ruins: Death Binder is a 1-2 player dark fantasy deck construction game, launching on Kickstarter on February 25.
In Ruins, you descend in a dungeon (abstracted, no tiles) and follow a branching path, resolving events and encounters on the way. As you progress, you gain experience but the darkness inside you ('taint') grows as well: the more taint you acquire, the more enemies you have to fight per encounter. The game works like a reverse deck builder: you start with the whole main deck to draw from, and gradually build a good hand.
When you resolve an event, it will often be an obstacle you have to overcome. If you are at the beginning of the game, you can only use three of the six cards you draw from the main deck. If your cards don't have enough power to face the challenge, you suffer damage. As the game progresses, you will be able to increase your hand size to stand a better chance.
When you resolve an encounter, you once again draw cards and try to deal damage to the enemy. Regardless of the outcome, after each event or encounter, you choose one card of the ones you played to keep aside and build your deck. When you rest, you spend experience points to upgrade your stats or buy action cards.
