Marvel United is live (Super Deformed Heroes)
Update: Marvel United has launched on Kickstarter, and the campaign will run for 22 days. There is only one pledge tier that offers you the game plus two Kickstarter exclusive heroes and one villain (he was revealed to be Corvus Glaive). The Infinity Gauntlet expansion is an optional add-on.
Our preview post below was published on February 10.
CMON is partnering up with Spin Master Games (a company that specializes in kids' toys and games) to bring Marvel United to Kickstarter tomorrow, February 11. The game is designed by Andrea Chiarvesio and Eric M. Lang, who previously made Munchkin Dungeon together.
As the name implies, this is a 2-4 player cooperative game in which you play as a superhero, teaming up with other heroes to defeat supervillains and save the world. The main attractions here are the chibi-style minis, the promise of enjoyable card play, and, of course, the theme itself if you are a Marvel fan. The solo player will have to control at least two superheroes, e.g. Captain America and Iron Man (Captain Marvel, Hulk and Black Widow being the other choices), or perhaps the Kickstarter exclusive heroes, Hawkeye and Nick Fury. There will be one more exclusive, unrevealed yet.
Each hero has their own deck of cards and special abilities. You first choose six locations to form the play area, then the villain to go up against (Red Skull, Taskmaster or Ultron, in the base game). Villains have their own card decks as well, through which they attack, create problems or place obstacles to the heroes. On their turn, the heroes will play their cards to cause damage, protect civilians or use their superpowers. Interaction and cooperation between heroes is strong, as the current hero will get to also perform the actions listed at the bottom of the card played by the previous hero.
A Kickstarter-only expansion will have you fighting the children of Thanos, to prevent them from obtaining the Infinity Stones - then taking on Thanos himself. There have been hints for other heroes - perhaps as stretch-goals - like Spider-Man and Thor. No Deadpool yet, sadly.
