Soviet Dawn: The Russian Civil War, 1918-1921 is a solitaire States of Siege game in which you are trying to fend off the forces that oppose the Revolution. Worthington Publishing is launching a Deluxe Edition of the game on November 7.
Your goal is to save Moscow from the enemies -Germans, Finns, Allies, Poles, Southern and Eastern forces- that progress towards it every round. At the start of your turn, you will draw a card from the Event deck and execute its instructions. The cards show which enemies advance on the tracks, and give you either a positive or negative event that you have to resolve (for example, the revolt of the Czech legion). The cards also tell you how many actions you can perform each turn.
Your available actions involve rolling a die to push enemies back, dealing with events, and trying to raise the political level (if the political level track goes down to 'Collapse', you lose the game). Each enemy counter has a number value that you have to beat with your die roll in order to make them retreat. For the political level, you roll against the Political Dissent table and need a 5 or 6 to move the marker forward. Another possible action is the Red Army Reorganization: if you roll a 6, it allows you to roll against the Red Army table and earn the corresponding bonus.
