Keep Up the Fire!: The Boxer Rebellion is a solitaire States of Siege (SoS) game in which you are trying to defend the foreign legations from the onslaught of anti-imperialist forces in 1900 China. It will launch on Kickstarter tomorrow, February 13.

Keep Up the Fire! was once upon a time published by Victory Point Games. This new, Deluxe edition will be released by Worthington Publishing. In the game, you are playing as a group of foreign ambassadors trapped in the international legation compound when the Boxer rebellion breaks out. If the Chinese manage to occupy the British Legation spot, you lose. You also lose if all your troops are eliminated, if 3 street fighting spaces are occupied, or if the Relief Column marker hasn't reached the Peking space when you play the last card.

The game is driven by Event cards. You will draw one at the start of every round and execute its instructions. Usually, these cards indicate the placement of Boxer forces and the number of actions you can perform in the current round. You then proceed to performing your actions. You choose the foreign nations you wish to activate and roll a die, applying any modifiers, in order to keep the Chinese at bay. If you succeed at hitting them, you roll again to see how many casualties they suffer. Alternatively, you may spend an action to increase your fortifications.

Then, the Chinese forces advance. In the next phase, a Boxer force blocks the 8-nation army on the Relief Column track. To beat them, you have to roll higher than their strength. If the nation army manages to enter Peking in time, you win the game.

Yes, this looks great. I think I'll end up with a "subscription" to Worthington games through Second Chance Games this year... The UK shop just added a VAT pre-paid shipping option to their website. For Benelux and Germany it looks not too bad at first sight, as there's also a discount.

When I saw the first picture I thought, "That looks like a Victory Point game." Once I started reading, I realized why. :^)
