Unsurmountable is live (Puzzle your way to the peak)
Update: Unsurmountable has launched on Kickstarter and the campaign will run for 10 days. You may pledge for a copy of the game with or without the Dual Peaks expansion, or for the PnP version. You may also add the Ugly Gryphon Inn and Food Chain Island expansions to your order, or go for everything released in the Simply Solo Series so far.
Our preview post below was published on September 12.
Unsurmountable is the next game in the Simply Solo series by Scott Almes and Button Shy Games. Your goal is to climb to the top of a mountain by carefully planning your route. It will launch on Kickstarter on September 14.
You start the game with a row of cards in front of you. You will be playing cards from the left side of the row into the mountain. When you draw new cards from the deck, you add them to the right side of the row and cannot reorder them. On your turn, you can perform one of two possible actions: add the front card to the mountain, or discard a non-front card and execute its effect. When you're done, you refill the row.
The mountain must be comprised of 4 cards at the bottom, 3 cards on top of that, then 2 cards, and one final peak card. If you manage to reach the peak and have a full route from bottom to top, you win the game. If you run out of cards before arriving at the top, it's game over.
In the same Kickstarter campaign, backers will be able to also purchase two expansions (The Guesthouse and Innployees) for Ugly Gryphon Inn, and an expansion (Legendary Creatures) for Food Chain Island - the two previous games in the Simply Solo line.
I own Food Chain Island (w/Expansions) and it's a nifty little game for just being a small deck of cards. I very recently acquired Ugly Gryphon Inn and haven't played it, yet, but hopefully will soon (as I usually say, but never do 🙄). I'll probably be backing Unsurmountable.
