Lazy Links: Feast, War and Resurrection
"Roo dee doo dee doo, a-roo dee doo dee di day!" (that's what people my age sing on a lazy Sunday afternoon). Ha, that was very funny. Just when I was back to writing daily posts, my daughter came home from camp with a fever and before I knew it I was knocked out as well. As I'm old and vulnerable to viruses and basically to anything wrong in the world. But, this gave me lots of time to spend surfing on the couch. What did I find this week?
Paul Grogan has started a new video series of solo playthroughs. Yay! First up was A Feast for Odin with the Norwegians expansion. This came right after the solo playthrough by Slickerdrips of Glass Road. A very good week for Uwe Rosenberg fans like me.
Top 10 Solitaire Wargames of 2023
Over at The Players' Aid, Grant revealed his Top 10 Solitaire Wargames of 2023. On it you'll find Mr President and Halls of Hegra, that are both well known outside the wargaming community, but also games like The Mog and That Others May Live. Then there are games by Hermann Luttmann and Amabel Holland, who are among our personal favourite designers, and a new edition of an old States of Siege game. None of these made it to number one though.
Every game in the list gets discussed at length, so it's a great post to get introduced to some games you may not know yet.
Torment of Bollocks
I like watching the reviews on the YouTube channel BoardGameBollocks. They're short and he always tells what he likes and what he doesn't like about a game, which really helps you to decide whether you might enjoy it. This week he had Euthia: Torment of Resurrection.
Okay, that's it for now. I'll have another hot drink and go to bed early. See you tomorrow.
It has been forever since I've played a war game. I do not miss them. I'm all about Science Fantasy, highly creative games, but I can appreciate what went into making those sorts of games. Thanks for the post, but get well soon!!
Hope you get well soon. Thank you for sharing that Top 10 Solitaire Wargames list. That was a nice read. As a primarily euro gamer, I also do want to try other types of games. I've of course enjoyed Halls of Hegra. Stalingrad: Advance to the Volga, 1942 looks like I might want to try out as the WWII subject does interest me and it looks manageable in time and table space. I don't think Mr. President even fits my table 😂
I kind of lost interest with war games as I has some bad experience with DVG games. I really liked Warfighter but their Kickstarter a couple of years ago was very disappointing (card quality, no rules or explanation…
Best of luck getting over that flu - it went around here as well. I never get the flu, but my family does. Yuck.
Stalingrad, Advance to the Volga, 1942?
