Inhospitable Malta
1565: St Elmo's Pay is a 1-2 player card game that recreates the clash between the Knights Hospitaller and the Ottoman troops during the Great Siege of Malta. 1565 integrates with designer Tristan Hall's previous game, 1066: Tears to Many Mothers, meaning that you can mix and match enemies and historical periods at will.
In the solo mode, you play as either a Knight or a Turk against the respective AI, trying to either kill the leader of the opposite side or achieve military victory by destroying the opponent's troops.
According to the publisher, every card in the game is inspired by a real person from that time. The actual historical outcome of the siege was the defeat of the Turks, and obstruction of the spread of Ottoman conquest to Italy. Thanks to this course of events, Malta is today best known as Rahdo's place of residence of recent years.
The Kickstarter campaign is scheduled to launch on October 1.
Update September 30: The Kickstarter is now scheduled for October 4.
