Cartographers: Heroes is live (Heroic Cartography)
Update: Cartographers: Heroes is live on Kickstarter and the campaign will run for 17 days. You may back the retail edition with or without the extra map packs, or go for the Collector's big box edition with or without the base game.
Our preview post below was published on October 3.
Cartographers: Heroes is a standalone expansion to the 1-100 player paper-and-pencil game Cartographers. Thunderworks Games will launch this along with 3 map packs and the Skills mini expansion on Kickstarter on October 6.
In the Cartographers base game, you play as a lone cartographer setting out to explore the kingdom of Nalos, and your goal is to earn a title from the Queen. The game is played over 4 Seasons. At the start of your turn, you reveal a card from the Explore deck. This will show a type of terrain (e.g. forest), and the shapes you can draw on your map. If you reveal an Ambush card, you check the upper right corner of the card for a grid that indicates which corner of your map you have to draw the monster shape in.
If you reach the end of a Season, you evaluate your performance according to the current season scoring card and earn reputation stars. Once you complete all four seasons, the game ends and you determine how well you did according to the solo scoring table.
Cartographers: Heroes can be either played on its own or be mixed with the base game, and includes new Hero, Explore, scoring, and Ambush cards. The new map packs are: Nebblis: Plane of Flame, Affril: Plane of Knowledge, and Undercity: Depths of Sabek. The Kickstarter campaign will also offer a big box (Collector's edition) that will fit all the content available for Cartographers.
