Our preview post below was published on November 4.
Elements of the Gods is a 1-5 player abstract strategy game in which you play as a young god gathering worshipers with the power of the elements. It will launch on Kickstarter on November 10.
In the solo mode, you play against an artificial opponent and follow the instructions of a solo deck. The AI has its own deck consisting of Monument, Garden and Divinity cards. The game lasts 6 rounds, and you and the AI will take alternating turns, 2 turns each.
At the start of your turn, you draw a card from the solo deck: it will show 3 elements (Fire, Water, Wind, Earth or Death) which will be your options for the first turn, as well as a 4th element that you must play on your second turn. You also pull a worshiper meeple from the bag and place it on the card.
Then, you perform your actions: you place the chosen element on the board and play or discard a card from your hand. Each element has different effects when placed on a square. Water, for example, draws all adjacent worshiper meeples of one colour to its square. Conversely, Fire disperses meeples of one colour from its square one space away. The meeple you placed on the solo card dictates the colour of the meeples you cannot manipulate for that round.
Cards in your hand are used to either build Monuments or Gardens, or to score points (Ritual and Smite cards) as long as their requirements are met on the board (e.g. a Garden can be built next to two meeples if they are diagonally adjacent to a Monument).
The AI builds Monuments and Gardens or scores points depending on the card it draws from its deck. If you manage to reach the final round, you subtract your score from the AI's and check the rulebook to see how well you did.
