DIE in the Dungeon is a 1-2 player dice rolling game in which you are a monster in a dungeon, trying to get rid of adventurers. It will launch on Kickstarter on June 2.
DIE in the Dungeon is primarily a solo game. You first create the layout of the dungeon following the instructions of the scenario you are playing, and place tokens on the designated spaces. These tokens signify magic, time, agility, might etc., and when you reach them, you get to raise your character's corresponding stats. If it's a die minion token, you get a re-roll of one of your dice. You set your character's starting stats by placing different types of dice on each slot: they always get a 20 on a D20 under 'time', and a 4 on a D4 under 'ability'. You decide how to distribute the remaining D6, D8, D10, and D12 on the character's health, agility, magic and might.
Over the course of the game, you will be moving through the dungeon collecting tokens in order to buff up your monster before the final boss fight. When you need to upgrade a stat that is already at its maximum, you replace the type of die it has with a higher value die (e.g. a D8 with a D10). When you take damage, dice may be downgraded too.
On each turn, you will spend one time, move to an adjacent dungeon tile and flip it face up. The tile will give you an enemy encounter. During combat, you will first use the abilities of your character cards, and spend ability points to defend against the opponent's attack. Then the enemies will roll a die depending on their stats. You compare the enemy roll to your equivalent die, and if you get hit, you either lower your health or the ability that was attacked. You then get to counter-attack the enemies by choosing to roll either your might, or agility, or magic die.
You lose the game if your health or time ever go down to zero, and you win if you manage to clear the dungeon of all the heroes.
The artwork is not my style either. I want to direct funds to Gate next month, but the customs cost makes me hesitant.
Thanks for the short preview!
The might/agility/magic tripartition is obviously reminiscent of Runebound... But I like it. I'm not too fond of the overly cartoony/overly genric artwork on the monster sheet/heroes card (respectively) though. Not that it could deter me from backing if the pricing is decent!
