Doom Machine is live
Doom Machine is a solitaire game in which you are trying to disassemble a machine before it goes off and destroys humanity. It is live on Kickstarter and the campaign will run for 27 days. You may pledge for one or two copies.
You start the game by revealing the first 3 machine parts you have to face, and set three dice with their corresponding health points on their cards. On each turn, you first roll your available dice (5 at first), and then allocate them to either the Shields, or to available Utilities, or to deal Damage to machine parts. The available utilities slots allow you to modify the face of the dice you are placing there. You can then allocate the modified dice to either shields or damage. To deal damage to a machine part, you have to meet the requirements of its card. If you manage to destroy a machine part, you add its dice to your dice pool.
On the machine's turn, you move the die on each machine part one space down the line. If it lands on an icon, you resolve its effect. If the die reaches the final spot, it resets and goes back to its starting slot. If a part deals damage to you, it is absorbed by your shields. If it exceeds your shield power, you receive hit points, and if your hit points are reduced to zero, you lose the game. At the end of each round, a new machine part is revealed, and eventually the machine core will show up. If you manage to destroy it, you win.
A PnP pledge has been added, aimed at international backers mainly. So hooray!
The mint tin gimmick gets me every time. If you have a tin with some little dice in it, you're halfway to getting my money.
It reminds me of Deep Space D6 as well. I entertained the thought of backing this, as I don't have DSD6, but 30 dollars (w. shipping) for a mint tin is a bit too much.
If there were no pictures here, just reading the description makes me think, "so, it's Deep Space D6 then"
Despite the fact the cards only have 4 colors, I like the look of 'em, as well as the theme of the game. I believe I'd like this game. Since I'm running low on space, its micro-ness gives it more merit, too.
The Populace Grinder card is sure to be a hit with antisocial misanthropists!
