Divide et Impera is live
D.E.I.: Divide et Impera has been live on Kickstarter since November 5. We postponed writing about it until more details were revealed about the solo mode. The campaign will end in 21 days.
In Divide et Impera you play as one of the factions competing for territory and resources in a post-apocalyptic ice age. These resources are meant to be sold to the dominant Corporation in exchange for food and fuel. Interestingly enough, the winning faction does not overturn the Corporation. They just become their favourite supplier. The game supports 1-4 players, if you purchase the solo expansion Gaea's Blood.
Gaea's Blood includes an extra faction that can be used in both the multiplayer and the solo mode. This new faction is the AI that the solo player competes against. It basically acts as a blocking opponent: the AI tokens are at first hidden so when the player explores, they become a nasty surprise. When revealed, the enemies take the action they are sitting on and receive victory points in the end according to a set of event cards.
In terms of gameplay, D.E.I. features a combination of worker placement and hand management. Each faction has a deck of cards which will be upgraded as the game goes by. The faction with the most victory points in the end, is proclaimed winner.
Ah, I missed this, thank you! The title of the KS update was misleading. :) I will update the post accordingly.
They posted some info in update #4 ( https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lmstudio/dei-divide-et-impera/posts/2677410 )
But to me it sounds a bit passive/reactive. Which I would guess would be great for a third faction in a 2 player game, but I'm not really convinced for the solo game. I prefer it when the game puts pressure on me, instead of just trying to roadblock me.
Hopefully we'll learn a little more before the campaign is over.
