APEX: Collected Edition is live (Apex Approaching)

The very hard to get Apex Theropod Deck-Building Game is back on Kickstarter, and the campaign will run for 29 days. The Collected Edition contains the base game (with 7 playable dino's) and all 8 previously released expansions, including ones that were limited or Kickstarter exclusives before. There are no new cards in this reprint. An early bird pledge level in the first week offers a discount.

It's also possible to buy expansion packs individually if some are missing from your collection.

Our preview post below was published on 9 and 13 December.

Update, 13 December: as mentioned below, the information is taken from a Kickstarter preview page. Outland Entertainment is listening to feedback and improving the campaign before they'll go live. Shipping costs are still being negotiated. Potential pledge levels are disappearing and appearing. One of the more interesting additions is an a la carte menu-pledge for those of us that have a previous version, but are missing a few expansions.

The original post below was published on 9 December. Expect some more changes before this goes live.

Soon. Real soon now. Dinosaurs will roam your game table at last. Apex Theropod Deck-Building Game is coming to Kickstarter once again. In this beautifully illustrated game by Herschel Hoffmeyer you play as a dinosaur species, taking on another one and fighting it out to see who's the baddest boss. You can rule the lands until the asteroid impact. Good fun. Every deck plays differently, and every boss has its own style and minions.

Since our first post announcing the reprint, a lot more information has come out, both on the Outland Entertainment website and on a Kickstarter preview page. The campaign is supposed to launch on Tuesday 10 December, but shipping outside the USA still has to be sorted out so this may or may not happen. Still, soon now.

Backers of the previous Kickstarter campaign (by the designer) who did not receive their pledge, will get a Collected Edition from this reprint by the new owners.

The new Collected Edition will contain the base game (with eight bosses) and four expansions (three more bosses).

Playable dinosaurs in the base game:

  • Acrocanthosaurus Atokensis

  • Carnotaurus Sastrei

  • Giganotosaurus Carolinii

  • Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus

  • Tyrannosaurus Rex

  • Utahraptor Ostrommaysorum

  • Velociraptor Mongoliensis

The included expansions will let you play as:

  • Saurophaganax Maximus

  • Suchomimus Tenerensis

  • Therizinosaurus Cheloniformis

  • and then there's Stomping Grounds, which adds a new mechanic to multiplayer games (cards for all dino species are included), but fortunately there are rules for solo play

You can buy two expansions separately (if you already own the game) or have them included in a higher pledge level:

  • Megalodon - sea creatures

  • Promethean Wars - sf dinos with high tech weapons

The pledges also mention a 45-card bonus "stretch deck" (we'll find out during the campaign) and the "Exotic Predators Expansion". This must be the expansion with

  • Quetzalcoatlus Northropi

  • Sarcosuchus Imperator

Which means of the original content only The Stomping Dead (zombie dinos) would be missing in this reprint. This has 33 cards so it won't be the stretch deck.

Oh, wait! That would mean the stretch deck could have cards that I don't own. And I can't just buy those cards alone. Let me grab my pitchfork.
