Runaljod: The Sound of the Runes is a 1-4 player cooperative adventure game that takes place in a Norse mythology setting. The Kickstarter campaign is scheduled to launch on October 22.
As the name of the game implies, one of its mechanisms is rune casting: in order to activate the abilities of your character, you take a handful of 'rune stones' (plastic tokens), shake them well, and throw them onto the player board. If they land face up, you can activate the equivalent abilities. If face down, you can't. If they fall on their side, you may use the power of the gods. If they fall off the table, it's a bad omen that means you will lose the game. Scratch that last part.
As the game progresses, you explore the frozen land, and encounter enemies. Combat is resolved through good old dice rolling. If you run out of health points you are knocked out, but there is a special action by which you can be revived. Runaljod can be played by completing individual scenarios or as a campaign. The video below shows the game in action.
