It can be played any way you want! I've been playing with a 15 minute timer to add that little bit of pressure, if you run out of time you lose! You can ramp up the difficulty by decreasing time if you want or I have seen it played where instead of a total time limit you play with 1 minute per turn, which might sound like a lot of time to decide what to do with 4/5 cards but believe me when the cards are all good or all bad 1minute is gone in a flash! But as I say you don't have to play with a timer at all, you might want to make the game more difficult by adding in more "glitch" cards and start really close to the black hole and so more time to better puzzle it out might be needed!
@Athena Thematically it's supposed to represent the race against time to save your ship before you get sucked into the black hole but in gameplay terms there are other ways to make it more difficult for yourself if you want a slightly different challenge.....
