There is an event which occurs twice a year and that I always expect with some feverish excitation, it's the Philibert sales. Philibert is the biggest online retailer in France... And a pretty good one with that (in terms of a consumer experience)!
The Summer sales opened today. Half the stock is already gone, and I was myself a bit late. Still, I found a few games, including some I actually wanted.
One is Dungeon Time. The cover looks especially ugly. It features push-your-luck, memory, and real time; plus the solo mode seems rather tacked on. If one day I get hired in Hell to torment Athena, I'll probably make her play this. Personally, I just hope the retail version is not too gutted out compared to the KS one.
Next one is Pac-Man The Card Game. It was really, really cheap, so it can't go wrong, right? Actually it's almost impossible to find any info on it, not even a picture. This afternoon I finally found a review from a respectable reviewer whose summary was "Worst game ever, burn it." Hmm. Maybe it could go wrong in the end.
But my biggest satisfaction is Mmm!, a soloable Knizia game that was already on my cart prior to the sales, waiting to reach the 'free shipping' threshold. Mindless dice rolling for children 4+. Perfect for me!
It also finally allows me to point out that, in my Knizia collection, I now have a game called Mmm!, a game called Brains, and a game called Mmm... Brains!. I feel much more whole now.
Ha, in the end, I was frustrated to have missed on Adrenaline that I bought a second-hand copy of it (a very decent deal). And since the expansion will soon get OOP and never pops up on the second-hand website, I had to import one copy from the Netherlands (it hasn't been released in France).
Never try a game if you don't have the expansions in case you end up liking it and can't find them anymore! Poor logic, but it's mine.
I missed the very good deal on Adrenaline which is one of the highest ranked game on my mental wishlist. Too bad it takes me so long to finally get to my workplace. It was even cheaper than the cheapest second hand copy I can find.
The anniversary edition of Knizia's Lord of the Rings is way overpriced, and the game is easy to find on the second-hand market. Even with the discount, it's not worth it. I already own the game twice anyway.
Some good games, there!
Hallertau, Gandhi: The Decolonization of British India, (Knizia's co-op) Lord of the Rings
Some interesting ones.
Feierabend, Heroes of Terrinoth, Porto
And some gone.
Days of Ire: Budapest 1956, Nights of Fire: Battle for Budapest, Swing States 2012
Nothing I "need"right now though. Phew.
😄
Dungeon Time really sounds like punishment to me!
