Excited to hear your thoughts @Cadet Stimpy I enjoy Gloomhaven, so any way it can be introduced to those who maybe don't want to go quite as big is exciting to me. I'm also curious if it holds it's RPG feel like the original does
I suspect the target audience for this is the hard core Gloomhaven fan and not an entry level version. For that, I suspect Jaws of the Lion is better suited. It just a professionally printed version of Gloomholdin with still the manual of a PnP. Glad I passed on this one.
That's my impression as well. I can recommend GH: Jaws of the Lion as a good entry to the system - it's easy to get started and pretty soon you've got an idea if you'd like more. (Which I didn't, but I have no regrets trying it.)
Wouter, between the Cephalofair description, "Buttons & Bugs gives you the same deep strategy combat of Gloomhaven but in a fraction of the size. It's compact footprint and streamline system means you can setup and play a scenario in under 20 minutes, and it fits on your coffee table or even an airplane tray table!", and a lesser BGG Complexity Rating than the others in the Gloomhaven line, I thought I might be able to comprehend it. 'Course, being more streamlined doesn't necessarily mean it'll be simpler, but I hope so. 🙂
This is one of the rare games for which I pledged and then asked a refund!
No rulebook, no game... It seemed way too complicated anyway. I feel we have been sold a streamlined, rules-easy version of Gloomhaven, except, no, it's the same complexity, except that now everything is tiny. Still a positive for me, but not something I want to trouble myself with.
I was (well, still am) leery of the difficulty, but was hoping to get a simpler version of the Gloomhaven beast, so I could experience what all the praise is about, without the size, expense, and complexity of the original. Sounds as if I may have failed. You can see the entire Rulebook here, Z.
Me and not you? Uh-oh, I'm beginning to think I bit off more than I can chew. 😄
P.S. JW, I think Wix is wackin'-out on me. I got no notification that you and Z had responded to this Post, hence the very delayed reply. Also, I submitted something in Your Latest Purchase yesterday, but no sign of it, yet, and I know you're not the slacker. It may be like that other one recently where you never received any notification that I had submitted it.
Thanks for addressing it so quickly, JW, and no need to apologize, as it's certainly not your fault. 🙂 I'll reach out if I think a Post went into Limbo.

I could just have moved your post to another category 😉 Perhaps you can do so as well as author, I never tried...
Anyway, enjoy! I'm glad it's you and not me that has to play this game 😜
