They came! And quickly I might add.
On the left: Mystic Runes (Core Set II). A standalone expansion.
On the right: Squire Pack-1. 9-Squires for Core set 1, and 9 more for Core set II. Awesome!!!!
I jumped into a game of Mystic Runes first. Overall, it's like Core Set 1 except it has new story/text on the adventure cards, new item and junk illustrations and similar scoring. HOWEVER, what I didn't realize was how the MYSTIC RUNES come into play!!!
I won't go into detail about the three mystic runes however, the idea is that these powerful stones can help you manipulate your bag as you build it. It's a nice subtle twist that allows you to do things just a bit differently (not to mention, you can score 1pt per rune at the end like you would an item). The three runes are: The Void Rune, The Morph Rune and The Hide Rune.
I will say nothing more on those...
Another unexpected addition was the dry-erase score cards!! These can be used when
playing either core set or when you combine them. YES that's right! If you have both core sets (as some lucky guy now does), you can combine them to allow you to play 1-4 players now. Awesome!!!
My first game I played with the Squire named "Autara". She's a druid fledgling if you were wondering. She came so close, but ended up not making it to the 25+ pts to be hired.
I played a second game, this time using "Musca". She's a merchant haggler. AND SHE GOT HIRED!!! Whoa! 25pts exactly in the end. I haven't been hired much playing solo with my Core Set 1, so I was pretty happy to officially be a Squire! 😀
I'm such a fan of Jon Merchant's artwork as well. It's so creative and fun. It just makes me smile. It's so great after a long day at work, to come home and play a game that is quick, simple yet has it's puzzly element but that just makes you smile when you choose your "Squire to be Hired"... 😁
I went exploring into my Squire Pack-1 after my two games today, and the additional 18-Squires is simply awesome! The two coolest names (in my opinion) are "Snowpaw" and "Windtail". The four names that make me smile and giggle are below:
Jon Merchant's art and colourful cards just make these quick little games so much fun to get to the table. Here's a look at the Mystic Runes Squires...
For just under $10 CDN each, it's a no-brainer for me. I love having these little packs in my collection. 😁
I think I'm gonna spring for those, Derek. You have good "sales skills". 😄 You liked the Pascal card, I see. It made me think of Disney's Tangled, as Pascal was Rapunzel's pet cameleon.

P.S. Your Posts are usually quite entertaining, Derek. Hey, weren't you one of ST's earliest Followers/Subscribers?
P.S. I like the artwork of these Squire for Hire games, too.
