Does saying "I won't be buying any games for a month or so" ever work??

As some of you are aware from a previous post, we have been forced to move since our landlord jumped on the insane housing market in our world. With a crazy month of July ahead of us and getting games to the table being an issue, I've stuck to digital (mostly) for the time being and said several times; "I don't plan to buy any games until we move and get settled in".

Well.....

Here's the "problem".... I purchased the early access release of Brass Birmingham on Steam last week I believe it was. There have been some bugs with it so far (as expected with early access games) but it's allowed me to learn a game I've had very high on my wishlist basically since getting into the hobby 1.5-2yrs ago.

At first I figured it may just stay as a digital game for the time being for me. But as I've learned it better and have been playing, I'm hooked! After playing this morning I thought to myself, "I'm just going to see if my usual game store I order from has them in stock" as I know it's not always easy to get a copy.

They did not have them in stock.

Rather than leaving it at that, because that would just be silly, I went to another game store I keep an eye on and sure enough, they're in stock! Uh oh! $85CDN later (that's taxes and shipping mind you), I'm hoping to have it in before we move. 😁

*This was not a "Bargain Ninja" purchase by any means. This was a "it's time" purchase!*

I really enjoy the game. I'm very much hooked on the look/artwork as well. As much as the digital version is great, to have this game on my table will be fantastic!!!

I was aware even before getting the digital version that the tabeltop game has a few fan-made variants. Recently I listened to the Solosaurus podcast on the game, and they gave their opinions of each of the three fan-made solo variants for it. The great thing is, the variants go from simplistic and basic (little more luck based), to a flowchart running the AI, to an "automa" type AI you can print out. Whoa!

Granted, they did suggest on the podcast that to purchase it just for solo probably isn't the best idea only because the game is SO great playing multiplayer. I get that. It's kind of like Terraforming Mars on my shelf. I'm dying to play multiplayer. But as we slowly move out of this crazy pandemic, more opportunities for these types of games to be enjoyed with others will keep opening up I'm sure. 😀

Either way, I've learned I really need to stop "planning" when it comes to game purchases, because it never seems to work out. 🤣 I was honestly thinking once we get moved and settled, my next purchases would be smaller solo games (One Deck Dungeon, Under Falling Skies and Warp's Edge)... But... the #4 game on the BGG Top 100 will have to do for now! 🤣
