A few weeks ago, I purchased the premium membership on BGA. What a site, and what a deal! I love it. My favourite aspect of BGA is how many games are on there, and it allows you to play/learn games to really see if you want to invest in the physical copy (which for me is always my first choice). It's also help control my spending a bit so my wife doesn't keep giving me that look when another new game comes in... LOL :)
BGA allowed me to learn the game Spyrium. It was a total fluke really. I hadn't heard anything about it, but the name caught my attention. Then the backstory did as well. I also love worker placement games, so the fact that this was worker placement with a bit of a different flavour was right up my alley.
So I did what most of us on this site would do.... I loved it so much I went searching for the physical copy! LOL I believe it's out of print, and the few game sites I typically buy from here in Canada either were sold out or didn't even have the game in their inventory. But once again, GeekMarket saved the day! I gentleman from Toronto area (just a couple hours away from me) had a copy for $20 + shipping. Woo Hoo!!!!
I was so excited when I got it. My 12yr old daughter and I played the first night I got it. And the little bugger beat me in game 1. LOL But I got her back in game 2. :) I was surprised how much she enjoyed the game.
I found some forum posts of fan made solo variants as well. Turns out they're essentially the same, with the more "recent" one being an adjusted version of the original. Both are "Beat your own score" variants; which is ok if you're dying to play the game, but not my favourite solo variant by any means. It's tough with this type of game though, since the interaction between players/choices is so high in the regular multiplayer game.
I'm curious if anyone out there has found/come up with any other ideas for a solo variant for Spyrium??
If not, it's all good. I love the game! And besides, it's just fun to say... "Spyrium". ;)
Hey, thanks for sharing! It took me a minute to realize you were talking about BoardGame Arena. ☺️ I just checked their solo selection but it was disappointing. Only 8 games, and I haven't even heard of half of them (what the heck is Thermopyles?). It may be a good way to try Rallyman, though. 🚗 I guess it's a great platform if you want to play with other people.
I'm not familiar with Spyrium, unfortunately. Try asking on BGG and the 1PG in case fans of the game have come up with something. But since you have such a great opponent at home, I wouldn't bother with a bot. 🙂
