The past few years we've purchased a "family game" each Christmas. Generally a game we all want and one that we all can get into. Past games have been Exploding Kittens, Ticket to Ride, Catan, and last year's purchase being PARKS.
This morning I was popping onto the game store sites looking for a family game for this Christmas. I decided on one that has been on my wishlist for quite a long time, and I think will satisfy all four of us; Tiny Towns ($36 CDN).
While I was shopping online, I came across something that caught my eye... Red Rising by Stonemaier games was on sale for $29 CDN at one of my usual FLGS sites I frequent. I couldn't pass that up!
This game is based on a book series which I have not read. However, I've seen many reviews and comments that you do not have to know the books to enjoy the game. Even for those who do know the books, it merely adds a little extra background knowledge in your play but nothing more. I like the look, the mechanics etc... And of course, I am a Stonemaier games fan, and I enjoy their solo modes. I'm not sure if Red Rising uses an Automa system or not (I hope so), but regardless I do know it comes with a solo mode.
I'm hoping they arrive before Christmas so that I can use Red Rising as a way to keep me busy before Santa comes on Christmas eve. š
Iām somewhat interested in the books but I do not know enough about them to make a decision yet. Let us know how you like the game!
