Early this week I purchased the Wingspan digital version on Steam. It was on sale, and I still had my 30% off coupon from purchasing the physical game this past summer. So I thought, why not pay the $12. Like Scythe digital, it'll allow me to play a game I love more often; especially when the table isn't available or time is not on my side.
So after playing several digital version games (they did a really nice job with the aesthetics and game play in Wingspan digital by the way), I had the urge to get it to the table.
I have to say, the digital version is pretty relaxing (as relaxing as staring into a screen can be). But it still doesn't match how relaxing of a feel the physical version gives me. Yesterday I felt I should add to that relaxation, and I threw on some bird and nature sounds on YouTube while I played. My wife was giggling at me, as I built my bird sanctuary to the sound of birds (made sense to me). But when my oldest came in, her reaction was "ya, why not!?" :)
Besides, it worked. I beat the Automa and felt very relaxed throughout.
*Side note - A cool edition that Wingspan digital has is that you not only can play computer opponents at different player numbers and ability levels, but you can also choose to play the Automa instead, as you would in the tabletop version.
I have a coupon, too, Derek. Maybe I'll hop over to Steam and follow your lead. Thanks for the tip. The background sounds to compliment the game was a nifty idea. Is that a raspberry smoothie, I see? Yummy! 🙂
