Frostpunk: The board game arrived!!! Ordered on Boxing Day and here 3-days later!!! Wow! 😮
Speaking of wow! ...
It's a pretty big box, but not quite as big as I thought it would be (or as big as the box it was shipped in - a little excessive in a way 🤣). However, believe me there is ALOT packed into this box. Let's open it up!
*A chill of blustery, winter air greets you as you lift the lid* ... BRRRRRR...
Immediately I found the 44 page rulebok, 35(ish) page scenario book and the advisor sheets on top. Yay! Can't wait to dive into this!
A few punchboards with various tokens, buildings and map tiles. The building tiles remind me very much of Brass Birmingham. 🙂
7 player boards... 😮 (the two on the left are one long, vertical "Generator board" / weather cards area and the two on top on the right are the long, horizontal "Population board" where you find your population numbers, type (children, engineers and workers), sickness tracking and food/hunger tracking.
Hope and discontent bags to hold their respective tokens...
MANY cards! As much as there are several tokens, resources etc with this game, cards drive each play for sure.
Meeples, resources and automatons...
Ah and the generator itself. Very cool. I'll explain more in my first play post about this central aspect of the game. Literally central... cuz it's cold and we need heat to survive!
I took a pic of this to show everything you get with Frostpunk: The Board Game. Wow!

What I forgot to take a picture of is the insert that comes with the game. I've quickly learned about the frustration around it, and understand why. It's a shame really, because the game is SO well done. It's sad to see in forums that something like this causes so much frustation. However, it makes sense. When you spend this much on a game and it's so deep and complex, you'd hope the publisher would provide something better in way of organizing.
After my unboxing day Friday, I actually was trying to give the publisher the benefit of the doubt. MAYBE they have shared somewhere their design thoughts / vision for this insert in way of organizing. I'm so used to Jamey Stagmeier's transperancy with Stonemaier games and how active he is on BGG forums with this sort of thing, I figured Glass Cannon (must) have something somewhere on the issue. Perhaps their own website has something? My in an errata or FAQ type thing?
Nothing. 🤔 Thats dissappointing. Especially when the game is so well done.
I did figure out a way that (although not ideal) works for now, after trying a few variations of organizing. But clearly the pre-order for the Foldeded Space organizer will be a necessity for a game that has such a big setup.
🤣 That's why I love ST. We all have our preference for games and can share our thoughts freely ... Like real people. 🥰
As for painting, it's in my plans for sure to try. When I purchased Expeditions last year I also bought an extra set of Scythe mechs to use as practice. But - I still haven't bought paints. Frostpunk took precedent there. 😁
As for the organizer, there's a Folded Space pre-order now so I have my eye on that in the near future for sure.
