Since my adventures with the Squire for Hire expansions, I've had the idea to keep some of my smaller games (such as that, and Maquis) at my desk here at work to utilize as a little "reset" and "relax" during the work day between clients and/or computer work. Unfortunately I'd like to put a couple other games in the office as well like D-Day Dice and Dungeon Roll, however, we've had to move the treatment/massage room for now, and unfortunately that's next to the office. So rolling dice (even in my dice tray) may not be great if there's treatments on the go.
ANYWAY, my idea came to fruition today as I took a break from my studying and decided to "head to France" to help the resistance fend off those German soliders!
I shuffled the base game missions and chose "Destroy the Train" (which can be tough). But then my 3-star (new content) mission I shuffled and chose ended up being "Bomb the Barracks". OH CRAP!
"Bomb the Barracks" consists of 3-seperate objectives: 2 being to 'recon the barracks' (by visiting that location on two seperate days) and the third being to deliver a fake ID + 2-explosives to that location. On that same day you deliver the fake ID and explosives, if you send a worker to an empty field and fire a gun off to distract the milice/soliders (meaning you need a gun) you can achieve a "major success" (a new addition to the game via the new content).
But here's the thing.... "Bomb the Barracks" has you start your solider track at 3. THREE!!!!! Meaning 3-soliders are in play right from the get go. For any "non-Maquis" folk; You can't kill soldiers. They're much more skilled than you. So you have two options;
1-Avoid them
2-Use a fake ID to get around ONE.
Easier said than done.
Wasn't the idea to relax and "reset" after doing some work for a while!?!? This is going to be stressful!
I took a deep breath, and dove in!
"Destroy the Train" mission requires you to get the explosives to that location to blow the train up between days 6 & 9. In other words - Get that done ASAP.
... But you need money airdropped to you first
... Then you need to build a chemist lab
... Then you need one medkit to purchase one explosive each time
OH and don't get caught! 😧
It was sketchy for a while. I "Destroyed the Train" in the timeframe needed but then had a lot of work ahead to "Bomb the Barracks". To make an already long story short, around day 11 or 12 my morale was at 1 (next morale drop = FAILED mission) and there were 4 soliders + 1 milice on patrol (to my 4 workers). TALK ABOUT NOT RELAXING! 🤣
I made some really nice decisions and a couple times had to push my luck and hope the patrols wouldn't be nearby, and I got lucky! I took out the milice at one point, and also bumped my morale up to 2 (which drops the soliders to 4). That turned out to be a huge move for me!
At the end of Day 13...somehow... I managed to complete the "Bomb the Barracks" mission. As I was placing my final worker I realized I also had a gun available to shoot off in the empty East field!!! Meaning a "Major Success" in the end. HOLY CRAP!!!! VIVE LA FRANCE!!!!! (Notice the 'deceased' Milice in the shot for dramatic effect 😂)
*DISCLAIMER - I played the "very easy" level again... I know, I need to bump up the difficulty. But first I want to try each of the four new 3-star missions completely. 😇
Well... Back to work.
Well, I thought you were going to speak about something entirely different, and it's actually not unrelated...
Today in France, a famous French resistant fighter during WWII got transferred in the Pantheon, a Temple to the French Republic in which the most important figures of our nation get buried (even symbolically).
This was a huge event. It happens that I'm working only one street away from this building so there were policemen all day in the streets. I didn't try to attend to the ceremony since (it shouldn't be a surprise) I truly hate crowds. And I was busy.
Playin' games at work? Now there's a solid plan! And you don't even have to worry about the boss givin' you shit about it! 😄
