I may have said it on ST in a post already, but if not I'm saying it again:
Root is right there with Scythe for me. Scythe has been my #1 game since I entered the hobby back in late 2019-early 2020. But I will say now, that Root is absolutely awesome!! It's so creative and so fun... I'm speechless.
And solo with Root: Clockwork Expansion is 100% worth it!
The games came in just about a week ago. I have 7 official solo plays and one two-handed play
under my belt at the table. I've now played with 3/4 factions both as human and bot. The only one I have yet to try on either side is the Vagabond.
After 7-plays, I can't quite yet pick a favourite. But I will say, I'm enjoying the Woodland Alliance more since getting Root to the table. On the digital version, they were ok but a bit confusing at times. I've moved through the "ah-ha" moments and into the "Ooooooooohhhhhh" moments. 😂
After two plays with the Woodland Alliance against the Electric Eyrie bots, it clicked. Although I got absolutely pummelled by the Eyrie 30-8 in my first attempt. 😏 The table was full of Christmas decorations as we were taking the tree down, so I took the opportunity to try out the Woodland Alliance with the digital version against a couple computer opponents to test my theories/strategies. It worked. I actually won that game! 😮
So tonight the Woodland Alliance took on the Mechanical Marquise in game 1 which I only lost 30-22. Much better by the WA for sure. Then for game 2 (as I like doing) I swapped factions; Marquise de Cat vs the Automated Alliance. The AA starts off a bit slow, and gives you confidence. Granted it stayed close in score early on, but really, I swear I felt I was doing good. But then the Woodland Alliance start to REALLY spread their sympathy and cause you trouble... In the end, I lost 30-19. Whoa.
I am so blown away by the fun factor Root brings. I also keep thinking how many plays into the future I have... the possibilities seem endless. So many ways to create variety, increase difficulty etc...
I think I'm in love.
You should meet up with Zerbique. He loves Root.
