In October I played about four or five solo games. In November I played one. Once. (It was Friday.)
When I'm well, I log 50-90 solo plays in a month. I really want to start playing again. So I've set myself small goals. I'm working towards playing Aliens: Bug Hunt, as I recently received it as a present.
STEP 1: read the rules ✔️
STEP 2: watch a playthrough video
STEP 3: set up the game, go through the motions with the rules
STEP 4: play the game!
Okay, step 5: I'll write a Table Presence for our website 😉
I took the first step today. It's just like starting over.
Fourty years ago, in the beginning of October I heard something weird. A teaser two notes on the radio. They didn't say which artist. Just that something special was coming. Soon. I was a huge Beatles fan, so I ran to the record store. Asked them about a new John Lennon record. They looked at me as if I was crazy - there had not been one in five years. In November, we knew the rumours had been true. I bought the new single, Starting Over. Then came December 8. And there would never be a new album again.
I don't play the song often, it's not really my favourite. But on December 8, yes, I do.
Yes! 🍾
STEP 5: I'll write a Table Presence ✔️
Guess I'm back 😀
STEP 3: set up the game, go through the motions with the rules ✔️
Even better: I just played my first game. Managed to make a completely new rules mistake. It made the game easier (and a bit boring for the longest part). Without that mistake, there will be more pressure earlier in the game. And I only just managed to win. So that's good.
STEP 4: play the game! ✔️
STEP 2: watch a playthrough video ✔️
I watched three videos yesterday 😄 Each seemed to have their own little mistake (details in the rules can be a bit confusing). But I think they cancelled each other out. Either that, or I'm going to play making three rules mistakes - apart from my own.
Let's hope you play it one of these days, I want to hear how Bug Hunt is!
