Last night I planned to get a game to the table before my wife and I watched a movie. I was on a timeline (LOL) so it couldn't be anything that took too much time for setup, play and take down. It was the perfect opportunity to break out, Spyrium.
As you can see to the right in the picture, I am still utilizing the solo variant I mentioned in my past post here. Very quickly I was reminded why I love this game. My additions to my collection pushed a couple games back on the shelf and this was one of those "victims", but not for any particular reason. I really enjoy this game.
I looked back in my notes, and since discovering this variant I've actually only played it seven times. The only downfall is it's a "Beat Your Own Score" variant, which are not my favourite. However, in Spyrium it gives you the opportunity to get your decision making skills down. The AI's "choices" can easily screw up your plans, just like another player can in a multiplayer game. So, in true Spyrium fashion, you need to have a plan 'B' and probably 'C' as well in your head.
My best score to date has been 60 VPs. The last time I played I scored 46 back at the start of November, so I was pretty pleased with my score of 56 last night after not having it to the table since then.
I absolutely love the uniqueness of the game and theme, and plan to get it back to the table again today.
You are the first and only solo gamer I've seen playing this game, it seems to be a bit obscure. Glad you're enjoying it!
