Episode 1 of the Rise of Fenris campaign is complete! And naturally, I loved it. 😎
RoF really delves into the backstory of Scythe, the "Great War" and the factory in the alternate 1920's Europa. I enjoyed reading the backstory prior to beginning the campaign.
***Once again - I will NEVER have ANY spoilers in my RoF posts... Have no fear!***
I decided to play against just one Automa for my campaign, and actually decided on the Autometta (easy) level for now. Factions and my player mat were chosen randomly as suggested. I ended up with the Rusviet faction (Phew! One of my more competent factions) vs the Saxony faction (*insert evil movie music here*).
Here's my reasoning behind just one automa and the easiest level;
1- Episode 1 has only minor changes from the base game. The remaining 7-episodes begin to branch in various directions from what I understand. However, just the subtle new elements had me thinking differently throughout (and at particular points). With more rules/changes to consider, I want to experience it without worrying about working multiple automa, at this point.
2- With more things to think about, and unknown changes/rules throughout the campaign, I decided to keep it simple and enjoy the experience. The minor adjustments in Ep 1 had me anxious and excited! I can't even imagine what's to come.
3- When working through the campaign against the Automa, you can vary the difficulty up or down between episodes if you'd like. So knowing I have the option, I decided to keep it simple.
Most importantly, because the entire campaign is resettable/replayable, I can enjoy the adventure in my first time through, and then head into a new campaign as many times as I want!! Woo Hoo!!!! 😁
It's also very cool that each campaign can vary depending on decisions, outcomes etc... I'm so impressed by that already from only reading the intro aspects and playing episode 1. This is going to be a wonderfully fun adventure folks!
Your enthusiasm is almost palpable, Derek! 😄 I embarked on a campaign today too (Tainted Grail: The Last Knight expansion). Let's see where it takes us!
