Just brought this to the table last night. Fantastic game! I am playing true solo during the first movie, but may start over due to misinterpreting the “Alien egg” rule where they should hatch during an event. My question: how do you guys normally play? True solo? Two or Three-handed? Do you play with variants?
The market (barracks) seems pretty stale. There is also a variant in the Expansion that states you can discard a “Coordinate“ card to draw a new one. Also, some people play true solo by drawing 5 cards to their hand instead of 6.
A lot of BGG users have been complaining that true solo is “broken” or easy. What are some of “your“ thoughts? What do ”you“ consider the optimal play experience?
You all are making me jealous. I've been looking to pick this up for months now and have had no luck finding it anywhere. I bought the James Bond set thinking it would scratch the same itch but it just isn't the same.
While I do love me some 007, "Aliens" is one of my favorite movies and being able to deck build in that universe is really cool (even though the movies somewhat are hit and miss for me after the second one.)
I've got Predator as well, anyone tried it with that also?
Just to chime in, I always play two-handed. It's really easy to manage, so I never felt the need to try with only one character. JW has been advising me to get the first expansion for years, but I instead went straight for the Covenant one. Alien is still my favourite deck builder to this day.
I play this (and the other Legendary Encounter games) two-handed. I love the coordinate mechanic and some synergies you can get with the right icons or keywords in play.
I can't remember one-handed being easy though! I once went through the whole game, trying with different characters, but the Mercenary was the only one pulling it off. That said, I may have played on hard difficulty (cards from the expansion). BTW, Legendary Encounters: An Alien Deck Building Game Expansion is probably the best expansion to any board game in history ever. Despite the stupid title.
This was my #1 boardgame for years, and I must have played it 100 times.
I've only played this 3/4 times myself and not for a while! Two-Handed is the only way I've played and thoroughly enjoyed it each time, so I can't really comment on the other playing options....
I really must get it going again.....😁
