It was a day of celebration yesterday; Saturday February 18th, 2023... Gloomhaven (an excellent game in it's own right) was overthrown from it's long time spot at #1, as reigning king of the BGG Top 100, by .... *Drum Roll*....
Brass Birmingham!!!! 😮😀
When I read that enjoying my morning coffee, it just seemed like the right thing to do to get BB to the table yesterday. And that I did.
I played against the VictorAI fan-made solo variant for only the second time. It's a smooth system for sure. Having said that, something was wrong... 🤔
Ok, I haven't played Brass in a while (digital or tabletop), but why was I seemingly unable to do much of anything. Even in bad performances, my points aren't typically this low. It just seemed like VictorAI was running rampant, although even his VPs were low. What's happening??? THEN, I "finished the game" and I thought "no, no... This game is not that quick. What's going on?"
You're not playing it right dummy!!! 🙄
I (somewhat) laughed at myself, through my disappointment in my actions when I realized I was 100% playing the game wrong. Ridiculous!!! I dealt myself and Victor our hands of 8-cards.... and that's it!!!??? After each round, you REFILL your hand from the draw deck back to 8 cards, until the draw deck is empty. THEN you continue the rounds until your hand is gone. 🙄 DUH!!!
I didn't have alot of time before dinner and heading to my friend's concert, so I played a quick canal-era game only. I must say - when you PLAY BY THE RULES it really makes the game more fun. 🤣 I actually won that era as well... also more fun!!! 😁
My plan is to get the game BACK out to the table later today after hockey and a hike, to celebrate the new king of the boardgame land.
