I got Abomination back to the table this evening. I hadn't played it for months, but thankfully the rules are easy and I was able to get started almost immediately. The solo mode is not about gaining the most victory points but a race to gather organs to assemble the corpse, and, if you're lucky, bring it to life. Cops are going to stand in the way but you can try to escape or even murder them, if need be.
I was a bit rusty and didn't play well. My guy didn't even have skin on most of his body. The gameplay is quite good but nothing mind-blowing. It's all about the macabre theme and atmospheric artwork. It really is a unique game and raises the banality of gathering resources on a whole different level, when instead of wood, metal and wheat you have to get bones, blood and muscles.
I have already written an article on the game, so this is a quick post to say it was worth 'reanimating', and I'm eager to try again.
Nice Subject Line, Athena. I must say, you and JW do come-up with a lot of good Subject Lines. 🙂
I've never played this Solo, but have a few times with one other Player. I like it. The theme is pretty grotesque and heinous, but excellent.
Ya hire thugs to murder people for ya, so you can collect the "resources" you need. Or, Hell, maybe you just kill the hapless victim yourself. Why should the thugs have all the fun?
The places you collect your resources are well done. Ya donate some time at the hospital, then you have access to fresher resources. You're more desperate and/or almost broke, time to rob some graves at the cemetery, or do ya pay-off the grave digger - I forgot.
Ah, crap, I shoulda read the article you wrote, 'cause I'm surely being redundant. I'm gonna Post this anyway, 'cause I went to the trouble of typin' it.
Athena, when you mentioned 'reanimating', it reminded me of a trinket I own related to the movie Re-Animator. But, damn, I can't find it (if I ever do, I'll Post a picture). I'm thinkin', if you don't know where everything you own is, you have too much stuff. That would be me. 😐
P.S. Your guy was mostly skinless? Eew, icky.
P.S. #2 I had to look-up 'banality'. Relative to me, your vocabulary is titanic. 🙂
