As promised 😉 the list is really short:
Marvel Champions: The Card Game (26 plays): I got the Gamora Hero Pack as a present for my birthday in August so time to try her out. I got into a really nice rythms of playing a game in the morning together with Quests Over Coffee. I now have 62 plays only using the original prebuilt decks. I've now merged all aspect cards together and will try out some decks of my own and is quite daunting for me.
Quests Over Coffee (7 plays): A PnP Yahtzee variant that plays in under 10 minutes with some nice variety and just the right game at the right time given the crazy busy month. I like the micro stories on the cards.
Ukiyo (3 plays): After playing my PnP copy mostly during the summer time, I received my crowdfuding copy. Nice little puzzle game following the trend of games like Sprawlopolis
Tales from the Loop: The Board Game (1 play): I like the vibe of this game. It's not a high sci-fi game, it's just an alternative '80 setting (think Stranger Things without the horror but with some robots). Tom Vasel found it 'boring' but I find the setting unique and the gameplay engaging. I understand Tom Vasel's 'boring' if the setting doesn't engage you, it's not high fantasy nor sci-fi, it's just a bunch of kids going to school but also trying to solve a story/mystery. As they say in french "des gout et des couleurs on ne discute pas". My only big remark here is that the rulebook is "imprecise". It's not a bad rulebook but it's a rulebook written by a designer who normally writes RPG books and it shows. For boardgames you need more precision and some parts of the rulebook are just not well defined enough. So if you want something unique (read niche 😁), check it out.
For December, I'm participating in the Dicember challenge and you can follow my progress here.
I guess that this is a discussion that should be saved for next month, but I have noticed you've been playing Sanctum. I'm glad you're enjoying it - I have myself parted with my copy less than a month ago. I found the "adventure" part enjoyable, if a bit on rails, but the boss part was really punishing. Building your character is fun, but I feel that it was too constrained. With far fewer components, One Deck Dungeon seems to me to offer more possibilities for character customization.
I like Ukiyo, but as you get to the more challenging puzzles, it becomes frustrating (it has been so in my experience, at least). I would go as far as calling it "flawed". For instance, some puzzles are unbeatable from the very start, depending on which card is last in the pile. When you only discover this at the end, it's just infuriating - no matter all your efforts you were doomed.
I should have gone with Dicember as well. I've already played 9 different games involving dice games this month. I wanted to do a Deep Dive but didn't have the time.
Quests over Coffee looks really nice. But I am not a crafting person (I have only crafted one game in my whole life, which ironically is Ukiyo...).
