I played my first session of Nations: The Dice Game today. I ended up building windmills in Greece, with Samurai protecting my advisor Marie Antoinette while we sailed in our longships to the Statue of Liberty. Good stuff.
This game has been on sale in Ghent for months and I have been wondering ever since whether to get it or not. What you describe seems very enjoyable but... I am still unsure whether the fun this game provides is of the kind I am sensitive to.
I don't know what you're looking for. I also own Roll through the Ages (both the Bronze and Iron Age versions). The tiles in Nations make it a bit less abstract than those games, though I have to admit I'm still mainly checking icons (cost, profits, victory points). But if you have any questions, please let me know and I'll prepare a longer post.
I love dice games, I can't suffer resource management and economic development games. If this feels more than a dice game rather than an economic game, then it's something I might be looking for.
