Yesterday night, I finally got to try Bullet! I won but had so many rules wring it doesn't count. It's a simple game, yet I think the rulebook is a bit shaky (it doesn't help that the solo mode is not written down "as is", and that you have to switch back and forth between the regular multiplayer rules and how these rules are modified when you play solo).
Anyway, this afternoon, I tried again!
I played Triangle Girl against Fang Sun. See this big bag between the plant and the coconuts? That's the bullet bag, it's huge!
The wooden bullets are awesome (I'm glad I went with the deluxe edition in the end). The rest is functional, if not a bit flimsy. The art is okay, I like that it's colorful.
So, what about the gameplay? Well, I still cannot figure out how this boss actually works, despite searching around on the BGG forums. Aside from this, the game is brutal. You have 3 HP (at least with Triangle Girl) so you really have little to no margin for error. That said the boss can be slain pretty fast... So it's a very intense and short match. I would have preferred something longer and less crushing, I think!
Also, now that I have sorted out the box a little bit (which, by the way, doesn't close properly now), set-up is pretty fast. I wish there was a way to organize the whole mess, but if I focus on a single heroine, it should really be a matter of seconds.
So far, I'm a bit stunned by the harsh difficulty, and annoyed with the rules puzzle, but I'll try another boss tonight and see how it goes! If I ever happen to suck less at the game, and if my bosses agree, I might do a Table Presence post in the near future.
EDIT: Okay, after a more thorough search, I found out that there is a"typo" on the boss sheet -actually all that was not making sense is because everything was wrong, like "this round" being replaced by "next round" and other mistakes. It should be less harsh than it felt.
....with fixed cards as well 😁
Unfortunetaly I missed this one on KS last time, probably due to the artwork. I'm not a fan of anime-themes...anyway: after watching some gameplay and reading some reviews (including your first impressions) I guess I missed a fun one (even in multiplayer mode). And like Zerbique I'm only interested in the deluxe-version, which is unfortunetaly not available from their website. So let's wait for the first expansion(s) and hopefully the deluxe-version will be available again...
I played tonight against the Fugue in D Minor and stumbled against a rule question once more -basically I have either won or lost depending on the answer to this question.
The game lives up to my expectations, or at least will if I stop to bump against game-changing rule unclarities.
