Tom Vasel did NOT like the Rulebooks of the Matchbox Collection. Within the first 3 minutes of this Video, you'll see what I mean. Thundergryph's President and Founder, Gonzalo Aguirre Bisi, apologizes in this Video.
Bisi says that for all future Thundergryph game releases, Jonathan Cox (JonGetsGames) will be creating the Rulebooks, as well as redoing the Matchbox Collection rules from scratch.
Wait, Tom Vasel made a belligerent and obnoxious criticism of a game... and he actually had a point?
Wow.
First time for everything, I guess.
Ha ha ha now the Vasel review is discussed here on BGG and people take it against... Rahdo!
And they have the same age-old argument as we had: are content creators responsible and accountable for the influence they exert, or are the influenced to blame because they didn't bother thinking by themselves? Are the Founders responsible of the Aliens invasion for carrying a whole vessel full of eggs, or is the Nostromo crew responsible of it for taking an egg and letting in hatch in their ship? Yes, I do regard thoughts and opinions as xenomorphs living on the scene of our brains. We are watchers of a noetic ecosystem we barely control.
Another "interesting" review of Vasel's. It's only Part 1.
We've all been BBB'd on occasion, that's true. 😄 At least all the rulebooks-reading to write posts for ST has made me more picky with my purchases.
Man, that was brutal! But I gotta say, it was about time someone with influence spoke out about how easily people are blinded by bling on Kickstarter.
Indeed, influencers have great power over their audience, especially Shut Up and Sit Down. I think they have earned their position in the system, though, and it makes sense that companies respond to them. Jon Gets Games is really good at what he does, I've watched his rules explanations a few times and he is always very thorough. I would trust him with my rulebook too. 🙂
Yeah, it's a bit wild.
Wooow!
I didn't think that these influencers could be so harsh to a company, I always see them as paid guys that always praise the products they review even in the most uninspired and vague way. But here it's not a paid review so...
Actually, it's a bit frightening to see how much power these influencers have in the hobby. I remember this controversy about Shut Up & Sit Down and Rahdo I think, the latter telling the former they should be careful with the influence they had.
Handing over the job to the JonGetsGames guy is a weird move. Besides is popularity as a "content creator", what's the guarantee he will write good rulebooks? But his popularity cover them from a too harsh wave of criticism I think. It seems to be in the secret code of influencers not to go openly at war against one another.
Yes, to me this whole thing reveals, through both the attack and the response, the power the influencers hold on the hobby.
