Steamforged Games is bringing Monster Hunter: World - The Board Game to Kickstarter sometime in 2021. It will be a cooperative game based on the video game by the same name.
According to this source, it will cost around $100 and will, of course, be minis-heavy. Gameplay is card-driven, and the game is organized in expeditions that may take a shorter or longer amount of time. Each weapon has its own deck of cards and can be upgraded.
"Right now the plan is to include four monster types and a single biome with the base game. Expect to need additional sets to play in different biomes and at high levels".
😄 Ha ha you were right about people reacting to Steamforged on the Sifting thread! It didn't take one day for your prophecy to be fulfilled!
(That said the reaction struck me as pretty moderate and sensible.)
Not in the slightest. I mostly play old-school isometric RPGs, 2D Metroidvanias and Idlers. But I've seen that there is an upcoming movie by Paul Anderson, the guy who made the Resident Evil series. I've only seen the last entry but found it exceptionally enjoyable (although completely and assumedly silly), so I look forward the Monster Hunter World movie.
Besides, a big dragon on the game box, giant miniatures... I know it will be a delight skimming through their campaign page. All the more since I know I won't be tempted to throw a huge amount of money in it, because I'm not into minis-heavy game, even though they do look awesome. Same with Massive Darkness 2 right now. I'm just glad it's there.
Are you familiar with the video game? (I'm not). Expect to see a torrent of complaints about Steamforged when we talk about this in the 1PG thread. 😄
Very nice news. I'll never try to get or play this game, but I find it cool nonetheless.
