Mark Tuck, the designer of Orchard: A 9 card solitaire game, is currently working on a standalone sequel called GROVE: A 9 card solitaire game. It will be brought to Kickstarter by Side Room Games sometime later this year.
Grove has cards that look similar to those of Orchard but this time there is an empty space on them to signify a glade. This gap is used as 'wild' and can either cover a tree or be covered by a tree, but dice on glades do not score. The game will come with custom dice which will be used to show how many fruits of the same kind you have overlapped. For example, if you cover a tree with 1 lemon with another tree with 2 lemons, you will put a die showing 3 on top.
The game also has a cheeky squirrel. It acts similarly to the rotten fruit token in Orchard, taking up a spot where the trees don't match. However, this time the squirrel doesn't merely deduct 1 point from your score, it also takes 1 point for every orthogonally adjacent die you have placed (so it may take maximum 5 points from you).
If you manage to overlap a tree with a basket die on it, you will replace it with a wheelbarrow token that signifies 15 points. PnP files will be uploaded on BGG soon.
Nothin' like a pesky squirrel to ramp-up the challenge!
