I came across this pic that I took a few games back (of Red Rising) and forgot I hadn't shared my thoughts with my ST folks yet...
Here I had the Group Counsellor card in my hand. You can see in the top left corner of the card, it's VP is very high at the end of the game. HOWEVER, you can also see at the bottom of the card, the effect that takes place during end game scoring; -1VP per banished card. The situation in this particular game was that the banished card pile was growing quite big!
It was a cool little sample of some of the decisions you can be faced with during a game of Red Rising. Not just the cards make you think, but the luck of the draw as well in terms of what cards come into play each game. I love that! 😃
I also forgot to mention that Red Rising is the first game I have based on a book series. I've enjoyed the game so much, and heard great things about the series that I bought the first book in the series to read soon once I finish my current (non-work book). I'm looking forward to it. According to other fans of the game, when you have read the books it gives you a deeper understanding why some cards interact with others the way they do during the game and during scoring in the end.
Very cool!
Red Rising is one of my favorite deck builders. I love how you need to pay attention to the game state and evolve your game play in order to win. The game is designed to prevent players from finding a "best strategy".
I hope you enjoy the book as much as the game. What are you reading now?
FWIW, on Audible (I looked at this because I have an Account with 'em) the first book of the series was well liked. A few of the others in the series had 5 stars.
