I have to admit this is quite a nice implementation and the game is quite fun and quick. I could imagine when playing the tabletop version you could easily mess up bringing out all the several threats at the appropriate time, luckily the app takes care of this. Assuming I play correct I still end up every now and then with quite some dice which are useless given the specific status of the game at that time. Would someone recognize this? Next to that I ran into a specific situation the other day:
Due to bad player rolls and "good" threat rolls I ended up with three dice send to the Infirmary and two dice set to Scanners, leaving me with only one active dice.
The only thing you can hope for is to roll a pink dice to be able to bring back your crew from the Infirmary. Due to ongoing bad luck for another couple of turns my last active dice was sent to the Infirmary as well...Game Over...this felt like a flaw, not sure it is, but together with the regular occurence of useless dice I'm not (yet) hooked on the game the way JW is...
This is a feature, not a bug 😉 You can have really bad luck with Deep Space D-6. Some threats are very important to take out or block with a Stasis Beam to not let things get out of hand. After playing a few times, you'll know the deck and will recognise the danger of some combination of threats. So you'll try to adapt and take out or block them in a specific order.
I usually play the board game on medium difficulty, but the app on hard - as losses are quick anyway. When you play on easy or medium difficulty level, you have got more time to take out the threats and repair your ship.
The app is an implementation of the original free PnP version. The printed board game has an extra option to send a die to the Infirmary to set another die to your liking. That way you can often prevent things from getting out of hand.
