I don't need more games than I can play regularly, but I'm weak, and have the affliction of collectionitis.
Decades ago it was books (physical copies), and now they're nearly extinct. Then, years later I was collecting DVDs. I wish I woulda had the foresight to see them becoming extinct - hello Streaming. A co-worker back when I lived in Texas joked about how I had a Volvo in my closet (referencing my DVD collection). I sometimes think I'd have a hard time even giving away my DVDs. I mean, who wants to get up off the couch to insert a disc into a machine, when you can just press a few buttons on your remote (while eating nachos with the other hand) to achieve the same result? 🙂
Now, it's board/card games. However, I believe they are going to have 'staying power'. Despite stuff like Tabletopia, Board Game Arena, Board Games Apps (such as these), etc., which are pretty cool, many folks seem to like the tactile nature of physical components, including me. Plus, having a shelf or two of board games are fun to even just look at, as the art, even on the outside of the box, is often pretty good eye candy.
Anyway, even though I have a poor record of maintaining New Year's Resolutions, this year I'm gonna try to significantly cut-back on my game purchases. But, if I fail, it won't be so bad. 🙂
My 'solution' is to be extremely picky and only buy something I am almost certain I will enjoy. I still make mistakes, of course, or just buy stuff because I want to BUY. It certainly gives a small adrenaline kick, especially when you don't have much else as substitute. 😄
