Marvel B.U.M.M.E.R.

It's not as bad as X-Men: Mutant Insurrection or Arkham Horror: Final Hour. I can see this one getting an expansion in a year or so.

I found mixed reviews, not all bad. I think the main criticisms for me would be the price and that gameplay can get a bit samey. But I expect this to be more of a problem multiplayer (where you stick to your strengths) than solo (where you focus on the synergy of the characters you control and get to do all the things - fight, support and focus on missions).

I think it can be especially good for solo, as some characters have a typical support role, and I might not enjoy doing actions for other people only for a few hours long.

What I liked was that turns are fast (just one action per turn) and I can absolutely see myself handling three characters without mental overload. You do need to check how every minion reacts - or what effect they trigger when you kill them (on their own card or on a mission card). But as your turns themselves are simple that's no problem.

It will take 2 hours I think when playing solo, maybe less with two characters. So right between the lengths of Marvel Champions and Eldritch Horror. Which means there is place for this game in my collection.

There are not many bosses, but lots of characters - that each can be combined with one of six aspects (somewhat like in Marvel Champions) that will make them play different. So the fun will be in fighting the bosses and tackling missions with different combinations of heroes. The amount of cooperation is great - not just because of support actions, but you also get bonuses called "team work", points you can spend on special abilities later.

You should however have a least some fondness for the Marvel characters. The theme adds a lot to the fun.
