Banish the Snakes: A Game of St. Patrick in Ireland (2 plays): When I ended my first game, I immediately wanted to play again. Looks like wargamer publisher GMT is branching out to other mechanics but still with a strong historic theme. The box cover, artwork and the historis theme attracted me and it got some good initial reviews. The way to convert people to Christianity (some push your luck plus hierarchy modifiers) is a cool mechanic. It's a light coop as the event cards you draw can undo a lot of your hard work. But you can kind of predict which part of the board the events will affect?
Be aware that upon opening the box, you need to one-time sticker a fair amount of wooden blocks. It's a GMT game after all 😉
Roll for Great Old Ones: A Roll & Write Game (3 plays): That's Pretty Clever-like dice combo rolling meets a lovecraftian theme. You can reroll and manipulate your dice but at the expense of sanity. It's a solid design and worth the build (I needed to print on A3 as otherwise the icons were too small). It took me 3 tries to win the first scenario. Looking forward to trying the other ones.
Mosaic: A Story of Civilization (3 plays): Finally a civilisation game that's not focused on combat (the combat is to increase your area majority). It has a good AI bot designed by David Turczi. Unfortunately only the kickstarter version has the solo mode. Retail owners will have to use the version made by the BGG community (it's only 30 cards). Also the upcoming expansion will not support the solo mode. Pity the publisher doesn't continue to support the solo mode.
Puzzle Dungeon (3 plays): With the Kickstarter campaign for a standalone expansion, I replayed this one a few times. Previously I found it an ok game but now it clicked and I really like it. It's a well designed card based puzzle and the designer sells it on Etsy. He does go a bit overboard with a ton of optional extra heroes which you really don't need. The base game (and now the new standalone) are more than enough.
Wayfarers of the South Tigris (2 plays) & Lacrimosa (1 plays): Rock solid euro games with descent solo modes. If you're into euros, you should try them at least once.
Hand of Fate: Ordeals – Special Edition (4 plays): I managed to acquire this deck builder, with gorgeous artwork from Ian O'Toole, for a reasonable price. I expected to receive the regular edition but upon arrival it was the special edition which has some additional content. I went through the first coop/solo campaign (you plays 3 games) and it was ok gameplay wise. It feels like a tough challenge. Not completely convinced on the gameplay but I need to play this more as the game does intrigue me.
Final Girl (2 plays): Played "Terror From Above" which was ok and "Frightmare on Maple Lane" which was excellent.
Astroforce: The Dice Game (1 play): 5 year patrol medium with ASV Marie Curie
Pentaquest (2 plays): I played the new Heroes expansion. I lost game 1 but managed the top score on game 2. It's a cool idea and I want the game to work but it might be too swingy even for a 10 minute game.
Very nice list as always and I am especially glad that you ended up enjoying Puzzle Dungeon!
I contemplated getting Hands of Fate more than once, but this was before I got too many games to enjoy.
I also got Banish the Snakes but felt rebuked by the stickers (if I got grumpy about Siege of Runedar you can imagine these stickers weren't the best news for me).
Mosaic looks beautiful and I heard a lot of good about it (and some less good, as well), but I guess I am very much comfortable with my complete avoidance of Turczi bots. I don't like bots in general.
And you make Roll for the Great Ones sound more tempting than it appeared to me during the KS!
