Both personal and professional life have been stressful which gave me low energy to focus on anything else. So I'm combining my April and May plays.
- Unsettled (7 plays): Worked my way through the Yendraal and Strannos planets. I never gush about this game but I should. This is a top 3 solo game for me. I would never play this with other people as it would only ruin the experience for me. Each planet is a unique puzzle and every time I play this I get so immersed in it. The Strannos planet was quite the challenge and it nearly fried my brain. I still need to play planet Kaelyfos and by that time the new content will arrive.
I love that I have bad memory as this will allow me to rediscover the already played content 😋
- Legacy of Yu (9 plays): A full campaign playthrough resulting in 2 defeats and 7 wins. I thoroughly enjoyed going through the campaign. I found it an involved medium euro game whereby the campaign adds variability and balances the difficulty. I'm sure there's going to be a wide discussion on the campaign structure but I'll leave that to much smarter people. I enjoyed it and plan to go through it a 2nd time.
I do want to give kudos to the publisher Garphill Games. They release engaging euro games and the quality is impressively consistent. Component quality is consistent, no typos on components, well edited rulebooks, no Kickstarter exclusives FOMO and realistic release dates.
- Dungeon Pages: Core Set (3 plays): Nice roll and write. Rules are a bit fiddly at first for what is a straightforward game. There's character levelling and some nice dice allocation decisions. Not sure I need the year-long pack (which adds a crazy amount of heroes and dungeons) and will depend on often I come back to this one.
- Lands of Galzyr (5 plays): Still going strong as a story generating boardgame. The writing is strong together with a smart boardgame design and probably the best companion app (on par with the Mansions of Madness one).
- Twilight Inscription (2 plays): A friend of mine bought this and asked to prepare it for our weekly gaming night. As this was on my radar, I happily agreed to prepare the rules and played it solo twice. The solo version is a BYOS with a bot that basically goes for the common goals. I find it a more straightforward version of Hadrian's Wall while still being engaging. I enjoyed my two solo plays (and one multiplayer game) but I have no need to own a copy. I will happily play it again though.
- Dice Realms (4 plays): This has been on my radar for a long time. A dice building game designed by Thomas Lehmann. But the price of this game is 😫 I did finally decide to buy it as nobody in my gaming network has a copy. Worst scenario is that I don't enjoy it and I can sell/trade it recuperating most of the aquisition cost. But I won't get rid of it soon as I do enjoy it. It's Dominion the dice building game and the designer posted a solo variant on BGG which is really simple and gives a nice challange. I absolutely love deck building, not a big fan of bag building (not sure why), but I do love the dice building in this game.
- Aeon's End (1 play): I think I have finally found a good storage solution for all the content I own. But good god, why don't I play this game more often sigh
No play of Astroforce but I'm going to compensate for this in June.
That's a lot of impressive plays!
I'm glad you are enjoying Unsettled that much.
Personally, I had pledged for Dungeon Pages (the whole stuff) but never had the opportunity to print any bit of it, as expected. Probably money wasted for me.
