My post about my SPEEDY delivery and latest purchase sparked something else I wanted to post. I wanna talk boxes...
I don't have to say it, because I know those in the ST gang who follow my posts know I'm a HUGE Stonemaier games fan. Not everything - but most. And the games I love, I want EVERYTHING! 😀I felt like pointing out something else that I love about Jamie Stegmaier and his company; Their evolution. How they pay attention to what works and what doesn't. They adapt. They make things more efficient. Without ever sacrificing the quality that Stonemaier is associated with.
I honestly never thought I'd pay the same amount a game costs, to purchase a BOX to organize my games in but here we are. And I regret nothing. When you love these games like I do, and you know you're going to get the ENTIRE collection in your collection... well... you need a bigger box for that "one stop shop". The boxes I'm talking about here are:
Scythe Legendary Box (2017)
Wingspan Nesting Box (2022)
Viticulture Wine Crate (2022)
Since the Scythe Legendary Box, the "homebase box" for Stonemaier games have improved greatly. I'm a "little bit of a Scythe fan" (for those who don't know me), but this box is my LEAST favourite by far. It's understandable why it's the cheapest one of the three.
I'm a sucker for not just the game, but Jakub's artwork. So the box is FRIGGIN' beautiful to look at. HOWEVER...
-There are tuckboxes inside. Which, don't get me wrong, are very cool looking - but not practical for what I want in a box to organize my giant Scythe collection. They're flimsy (yet nice to look at). They're just a box - so it means either toss all components in or keep them in ziploc bags. But I'm sorry - if I'm paying the same price for a box as I would a new game, it's because I 100% don't want to continue opening ziploc bags every play.
-There's no inserts that come with the legendary box and tuckboxes. It's just that. Again, which is why it's cheaper. However, I'd pay another $30-$40 for inserts. Even plastic ones like the Viticulture Wine Crate (which are nothing special, but functional without question).
-I purchased the Folded Space Scythe inserts to hold my components and get away from tuckboxes and ziploc bags. It's much quicker to simply pull out a tray during setup. Unfortunately I have yet to find a way to organize ALL the Scythe collection, in the organizers, in the Legendary Box and have the lid sit even close to flush. It fits on my shelf no problem, but it just doesn't look as nice as it could ya know? 😑
I'll follow the most dissappointing of the three (again - not regretting the purchase; it's just not a Stonemaier best for me), with the Viticulture Wine Crate.
I'll brag (again) that my box was well within the first 1000 printed!! Woo!!! As I mentioned in my last post, this organizer for all things Viticulture is great. It has custom inserts that come with the wine crate to house everything. The inserts aren't fancy, but they are functional in my opinion (which is what matters). AND even with EVERYTHING inside, the box sits flush so it can show off the Stonemaier Games QUALITY that they are known for in their products. 🤗 Viticulture fans - if you're planning on buying all expansions, I HIGHLY recommend this!
Last but not least, the Wingsapn Nesting Box is another step UP from the Viticulture Wine Crate and for me takes the "Crown" for BEST BOX!
I was sure I had pictures of this fantastic box, but apparently - I don't! 🤔
This is Stonemaier's most expensive organizer box for a reason; it's the BEST!
-Solid quality and beautiful artwork
-Sturdy organizers / trays
-Excellent dividers to help sort cards for current and all future expansions
-Quick to dive into and get what you need to play to the table
-Box sits flush no problem at all
As expensive as this one is, if you're investing in the entire Wingspan collection (as I have been and will continue to do), this is a no brainer in my opinion and worth the money.
Soon you'll need an industrial shelving unit for all your game boxes >7Kg. 😄
