Last night after supper, I "called the table" (we don't have a dedicated gaming table... someday though... someday) as I was excited to break out Caverna: Cave Farmers again to play. I watched some more videos, read some of the rules that I did wrong my first time through and was ready to be a dwarf again.
The game went much smoother. I was much more comfortable with what's going on, how the flow of it goes etc... I really enjoyed it. And I finished much better after the game with a score of 76. Way better than 33 my first time. :)
It went so well, and much more quickly, that I had time to play a second game. So I did! And this time I finished WAY better.... I got 77. Bahahahah!!!! I so enjoyed playing though and had it not been around 10pm, I probably would've went for a third game. :)
This morning, while enjoying my coffee, I thought I'd pop onto the rules forum and check out some areas others may get stuck on etc... I came across two rules I (still) didn't get quite right. Oops! This game sure has a lot of "ah-ha" moments while you learn. No biggie though, it all makes sense. It kind of makes you think "well duh!" once you realize what you did wrong, because it's actually all right in front of your face most of the time. LOL
It made me think of why I'm so happy to have this game as part of my collection. It's a game that you won't get right away. Things will go misunderstood. You have to delve into the rulebook sometimes, the forums and check out the odd video. Geeze, it was just a couple weeks ago, after 60+ plays of Scythe that I realized a couple minor things I wasn't doing (that would help). For me, I LOVE those games. Games that make you think, learn and figure out. I know that doesn't entice all gamers, but I've learned that I very much enjoy these heavy games - especially when the theme grabs my attention. And Caverna in particular gives you that "figuring it out" sense in-game as well, with SO MANY OPTIONS of what you can do.
I can't wait to break it out on the table again!!! (Realistically, it'll probably have to wait until the weekend now though.... stupid responsibilities) ;)
Nice! You really make me want to look into it. 🙂
